The ski's seem to be aligned properly but the steering is off (maybe that is the ski alignment). I did notice the adjustment on top of the spindle was not the same side to side, you can see in the pictures. Any idea's? . Thanks Tim

check to see if you have a spindle thats twisted. you have to pull the spindle out of the trailing arm and if there good, adjust your splines and do alignment , hope that helps

center your handlebars. eye them. loosen the 2 locknuts on each tie rod. the outside ones are left handed thread. put a straight edge (long one) against edge of track and run it by the ski. you can use a 2x4 or such as long as there is virtually no sweep. measure from either edge of straight edge to center of ski on that side. front and back. do not need to measure all the way to the absolute front or back. toe the front out about 1/8" of an inch. repeat on other side. you will need to somehow lock handlebars in place or have someone hold them straight when you make adjustments or they will move on you. make sure straight edge stays up against track. use heavy object cinder block works good. this should get you close. after some use recheck alignment. this is not an exact science. make measurements with sled on ground. push down on front suspension a couple of times. really the best way may include adjustment of steering relay rod also. this rod connects the steering column to the idler arm which the tie rods are attached to. this rod runs directly under engine and is almost impossible to deal with engine in place. you should be o. k. just adjusting the tie rods. good luck

Check the top of the spindle under the black plastic cap and see if the dot lines up with the one on the arm also.

good point. also i forgot to mention you should make sure track is properly aligned first. measuring to center of ski may be easier if u make 2 pieces of wood same width as each spot on ski u are measuring at. put mark on center of peices. measure to mark with piece held in place. is that snow i hear in the distance? tried to start plow truck today. nada zilch zero etc. had not tried for a couple of weeks. i am currently practicing punching myself in the forehead. i will soon be ready for the big event, where i will attempt to knock myself silly with a single punch. i feel good about my chances.

going to put in set of plugs and block heater. why does it not have a heater already? truly i have no ****ing clue, just another reason to keep the punches coming.

So when I got the sled last month the steering / ski's alignment was fine. I have been moving the sled side to side on ski dollys as needed over the past month and I did have the skis turned sharp at one time or another. I havent rode the sled yet this year and it seems weird that its out of adjustment just from that.

I checked the spindles and they look good. I adjusted the tie rod ends to the maximum, eye let almost ready to fall out on the right side and to the minimum on the left ( no exposed threads on adjusters).

While trying to adjust the inner tie rods I noticed the relay rod adjustment seen in picture below. I think this might be what I should have been adjusting instead of the tie rods. It looks like this will turn just the steering/ handle bars and leave the skis straight forward. later today I plan to put the tie rods back where they were and adjust the relay rod. What do you think ??

i would suggest moving the steering arm one cog on the right side at least. check for the timing mark on the top of the spindle and try to bring it back in line with the trailing arm.

it is very unsafe to run with minimal threads from the heim to the rod, and there are min/max specs given by yamaha for that reason.

make your adjustments on the steering arm first, then follow through with re-aligning your skis. someone may have had that apart at one time and incorrectly put it back together or the tie rod has been replaced with the wrong one. they do vary in length between models.

yup "timing marks" on ski leg and arm need to line up. it is not likely that relay rod adjustment has been changed from factory. if that does require adjustment the rear locking nut could be a real pain with engine in place. most likely that arms were replaced incorrectly.

have to admit i did not look at pictures close enough. right hand arm must surely be positioned wrong on splines(radially). maybe left also.
