Any recomendations for carb set up for a 98 SRX that has a 2000 motor in it. Everything else is 98, stock 98 clutching, 98 power valves, stock exhaust wrapped with header wrap with bender can, stock 98 gearing. It has a fresh top end with the help of amato earlier tonight, so it should be all ready to go. But I want to get the carbs figured out before I put it together. I know that the jetting is different between the years, not only in size but also location of the larger(number) jet. And also the pilot jets are different. I ride mostly around mid Michigan, trail riding with a little off trail riding messing around.

it matters to what ign system you have the 98 or the 2000 as to what cylinder gets the bigger jet.
need more information as to whats all swapped.

then use stock 2001 jetting with the crappy ethanol fuel these days, 150 in the pto, 148.8,148.8 in center and mag.
hope your right about using the 2000 ign as the 98-99 needs the bigger jet in the mag cylinder with the old 175 waytt ign system. Your carb rack should have a tps senser mounted on the end of it. The cdi on the left footwell will only have 1 big plug and 1 small plug, say 8dn-10 on it.
If its a 98-99 its gonna have 3 plugs on it and say 8dn-00.
No offense meant but if you dont know alot about this stuff, I would double check that before you burn up the engine with the wrong jetting.

Thanks mrviper I will double check the wiring, but I am almost positive that it is 2000 wiring.
The carb does not have a TPS sensor on it.
Should I just keep the pilots I have in it (42.5) or should I switch those to 2001(40) also once I confirm the wiring.
Thanks for the help.

if you dont have tps on carbs then more then likely you have 98 ign system still , or the temp light would be blinking all the time a code for no tps(would need to have swapped the tach out as well from 2000)so really the only thing 2000 is MAYBE the cylinders/ heads, those should say 8dn-10 on them as well, 98-99 say 8dn-00. check this stuff out and report back.
check the cdi box will tell you in 2 seconds whats going on, then youll know.

The carbs do not have the TPS on them, the motor is 2000, the wiring is 2000 and yes it does have a connection by the carbs for TPS but there is no where to connect it. The bulb was removed from the temp light when I got the sled, and I did put one in at one time and the light just blinks like you said. The sled seemed to run OK with this set up the last couple years, but I was also way down on compression. Now that I have a fresh top end I would like to get the carb set up right.

well... I cant see the sled or what someone has swapped here and there, so unless you are going to verify what I told you about the cdi and stuff I cant help you because I dont know what you have there. I really dont like to get involved when stuff is just jerry rigged up to run with the tps missing, bulbs removed because they are flashing trouble codes, etc. etc. because now your dealing with something not running correctly, and theres no specs to refer to with that stuff..

2000 cdi
I checked it tonight and it is a 2000 cdi along with the 2000 wiring. The hookup for the carb tps is right there but the carbs have nothing to attach it to.
When I bought the sled I knew it would have a few issues but these were not the ones i anticipated, the wiring for the carbs was under the motor and the dual headlight wiring was taped together off to the side, so I guess if I would have been on here before i bought it i would have known a lot more.
I know the best thing to do would find a carb from a 2000 but will i be able to make this work good, just wont have the temp light till i find a newer carb???

Use the 2001 main jet specs of 150 (pto) and 148.8,148.8, your exisitng 42.5 pilots and fuel screws at 1.5 out.
get the right carb rack(2000-02 rack) so you can hook up the tps and replace the temp light bulb, because you have no way of knowing if anything is wrong with the sled with self diagnostic system disabled like it is now.
