First I would like to say hello to everyone. This looks like one of the best sites I have seen for Yamaha, but I still am a little confused on a snowmobile I bought this year.

I got my wife a 1998 SXr 600 and I have been trying to learn as much as I can about it. I am getting confused because when I try to find info on it I seem to always get directed to the SRX. I also find info on SX600R. Is a SX600R the same as SXr 600, they just move the letters or are they two different sleds??

Also I have been looking for the shop manual for the 1998 SXr 600 but have not been able to locate it yet, any help on this would be great.
I bought this sled because because I find everyone says this sled is a GREAT sled and it looks like new and so far seems to run perfect, but I still would like to learn all I can in regards to working on it. Thanks

Musselman is right. If it is a 98 and a 600, it will be a twin. They didn't make the 600 triple until 99. Hope this helps.

OK. I guess I will run the vin through a dealer to find out. He told me it was a 1998. It is blue and says SXr on the side. It is a triple with a red head.

There should be a manufacture date on a sticker on the right side of the tunnel. The manufacture date would be one year ahead of the model date. ie, manufacture date of 06/99 would be a 2000 model.

If it has a dual bulb headlight, then it is a 2001-2002 SXR 600. If it is a single beam headlight then it is a 2000 SXR 600. They made one in 99 (what mine is) but it was considered a vmax sx.

Thanks guys for the info. It has the signle beam headlight, so gussing the front half is a 2000 SXR 600.

I called the Yamaha dealer with thew vin number on the tunnel and he told me that that number comes back to a 1998 V-Max 500. So it looks as if thewy replaced the tunnel. Now its making since why I could not find any info on a 1998 SXR600. LOL
