Was laying some ground work for this summers project (maybe). I was looking at going to 136. While looking at the tunnel i noticed some loose rivits at the rear. Then upon further inspection i noticed it was different then my other 2 "02" vipers. It is bent and the 02's are straight? It is the exact same on each side with no crease. Is this bent or did it come that way. Ive had it 3yrs now so it didnt get hit by me, and i dont recall what it looked like when i got it. Would a trailer tie down do this? You know when trailering you compress the rear a bit and strap it down tight. Seems like it should be able to handle that. If it is bent whats the best way to straighten it out? And will this effect the strength when extending the tunnel? Any 04 viper S guys out there that could take a look would be great. It did come from the factory with a heat exchanger so didnt know if that had anything to do with it. Here are some pic's, what do you guys think??????

Yes I think it's bent . Did you install the heat exchanger looks like when the back got riveted on it pulled the back in

Sled came stock with rear heat exchanger, its the 04S. I just put reverse on this summer so no rides yet. I did find a pic from just after i bought it and it looks the same. Here is the link http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=69387 . I just want to make sure its bent before i go tearing it apart and banging on it. It if is bent whats the best way to get it straight again?

Use a block of wood to bridge the gap and slowly bang it straight. You may want to use a metal dolly to finish it off.
Here's a vid showing the basics of "hammer and dolly". Not the best vid but you get the idea

When I rebuild cars, I use a similar approach, but I prefer to us a conrtolled mechanism like a c-clamp and the piece of wood to do the major bending. If you beat a piece of metal with a hammer you can stretch it. I do use a hammer and dolly for taking out the little ripples once you get it close.stein700sx said:Use a block of wood to bridge the gap and slowly bang it straight. It looks like a lot of extra metal there though to just push it back straight again. the geometry of that corner is going to change and you need to figure out what it is going to do before you start pushing things around. From the pictures it looks like the back of the running boards need to go out? In that case, maybe a small bottle jack between the two with a piece of wood on each side would work, or a port-a-power if you have one. It's kinda hard to tell from teh pics though.

I have two 04s and It looks bent to me. However my sleds are long tracked so their slightly different.

my stepson's XTC looks the same after his Doo buddy hit him from behind, and his rear exchanger actually bent inward.I used a block and hammer and straightened the sides pretty good but couldn't really nail the exchanger back with a hammer, tried a large clamp..didn't help..but no leaks anywhere and had to revit flap back on also...lol

Ya thats bent. Hard tail landing or backed into something. The clamp idea would be a good start. Shouldnt have to take it apart though.

Looks like ill tear into it a bit more tomorrow. See if i can straighten that out a bit. It obviously didnt hurt anything major as ive been riding it this way since i bought it but its one of those things. It will drive me nuts till its fixed! LOL!!

Bounced around in trailer, or someone ran into the back of it. Both of my boys did that to my Viper 2 years apart.

^^^^Yup thats what it was, ran into the back of it. Once i got the snowflap and bumper cover off there was my answer. Someone hit the back of it right where the reflector is. So the bumper cover and or the reflector was replaced cause no way it would have come out of that unhurt. Nice dent in the back plate. And the holes where the heat exchanger is were dented in good too. No running board or tunnel involvement, just that back piece. Came right back in line without any trouble. Just some 1X and a c clamp. The top of the tunnel was nice and square also so the bumper is till nice and strong. A few tool marks but no biggie. Will get covered by hose covers if i go 136 anyway. So overall very happy! Were even getting snow!!! 3" here and a ton up north. YYYYAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
