Hey guys I have a question having to do with my 2004 Viper 700S the black and red limited edition model. I bought this sled in 2007 and it was used and the track was already studded. Studs were in good shape so didn't replace them. I just put on a new Camoplast Ripsaw 1.25 inch track that I'm pretty sure came on it from factory. What length of studs can I run without changing anything. When I changed the track it did have a 9 lug driver on it. Thanks for any help for it is greatly appreciated.

I have the same sled, and HAD a 1.25 track on it. You cant use studs on this track as is. You will be in the same boat i was... with a big hole torn through your front heat exchanger. You could run 1.25 studs, but it wouldnt be worth it. I ended up getting a 1" track and studding it. other wise i think you need to change to 8 tooth drivers. Sorry for the bad news, but it is better to know now then find out how i did.

I have the same sled and mine has 8th drivers. Not sure what the length is on the studs. The 1.25 ripsaw is the OEM track for that sled. Are you sure thats what you took off? A few guys have been lucky when running the 1.25 with studs and 9th drivers. General rule of thumb is you have to go to 8th drivers when studding this track. You want your studs about 1/4 or slightly less above the lug. Best way is to get your overall track lug height (bottom of track to top of lug) and buy your studs to suit. Just make sure your getting studs that measure total height to be sure of fitment. If your old track was a ripsaw i would just buy the exact same studs seeing you didnt have any trouble before. But i would not recommend studding a 1.25 track with 9th drivers. Just my 2cents.

Ok, thanks guys for responding to this. Yeah I'm 98% sure it was a 1.25 inch track I took off and he already had it studded when I bought it. Counted the driver 3 times to check it's a 9 clog driver. Is there a popular track that is between a 1 inch and a 1.25 inch track that I haven't heard of?

Also, is there a way to check what length of studs that were on the old track even though they are worn down pretttty good??

I'm one of the lucky guys running two yamahas with 1.25in ripsaws studded. I have 1.325in studs in both sleds. Both have the stock 9t drivers, only had to trim the tracks a little bit.

The 1.325 is a fairly short stud for a 1.25 track. Basically the stud is only 1/8" longer than the lug. Utilizing this length of stud I suppose you could get away with out changing the drivers. We will be studing my Son's Viper which has a 1.25 ripsaw, utizing a 1.5" stud. This is still a fairly short stud basically 1/4" past the height of the lug. I bought a drive axle for a Mountain Viper, which is an 8 lug driver, and OEM design for High lug tracks. When we replaced the OEM track I wished we would have just ran a 1" rather than the 1.25, Oh well live and learn. Al

yeah I think a good 1"track is a good all around track.I have a 1.25 Ripsaw on my 600 and hate it.A lot of the lugs have ripped or broken off on it over the years..really bad track I find.A 1 inch track seems to be more durable.

Its not a short stud length. Its what woodys recommends for a 1.25in track, plus they stick out more then a 1/4 inch past the track. The length of the stud is measured from the backing plate to the tip of the stud, not by the overall length of the stud. So actually the true overall length of a 1.32in is 1.730in. Sounds like a 1.5in stud is going to stick way out there.

Always go by the stud's total overall length(OAL) and measure YOUR track's total height (thiicknees of track plus lug height). It's the only way to know what you are getting. A lot of stud makers measure stud sizes ie .1075" as the length from the tip of the stud to the top of the backer plate, which is 1/8" thick plus the shape of the dome. I found their OAL measurement to be spot on, and the only way to tell on your track is to measure. A brand new 1" hacksaw doesnt have 1" lugs, they are only a little over 7/8". Go by OAL and your measured total track height, including thickness of the track. It 's the only way to be sure before ordering. Gil
