I have two mtn vipers that are set up the exact same way. One is topping out at about 8500 rpm. The other at 9000 rpm. I think the 9000 rpm is too high.
I have just replaced both with new oem belts, and they are both jetted the same way. I just recently installed both with SRX torque limiters and I checked alignment and offset. They were spot on. The 9000 rpm viper is right on the money with jetting (at least for that day's conditions). The other was just slightly rich of right on. Which is probably closer to where I want it since it was in the upper 30s low 40s when I tested them.
Would the extra rpm be because of the holes the previous owner drilled in the dash. Cold air holes I suppose.
I was going to do some more plug checks with some open cell foam in those holes to see if it richens the 9000 rpm sled up and looses some rpms.
Is this most likely the cause of extra rpms and leaner plugs?

most likely they do cause a more lean condition and higher rpm will happen with that also...just plug the holes somehow for now(duct tape or ?) and see if the motor changes rpm's.

They definitely raise the rpm. When I put my flo-rites in the dash, my rpm's jumped about 400-500 rpm.
Just need to pull your primary and put some heavier rivets in to get it back to 8500.
