As far as I can tell my sled has stock reeds in it.
Would it be a good investment to just add reed spacers or would I need to add new reeds and reed spacers to get a good hp gain?
Found spacers for $45

Couldn't really find a lot of info on here thru searching
But I am finding on other forums that reed spacers will make a couple point gain on the MM
Also hearing the vforce reeds have a lot of breakage issues, do not want
So I guess I'll just wait and hear what someone has to say who's already put reed spacers on their MM.
Mine is piped with a high performance head is all, no porting.

I was reading on the reed notch mod and the way I understood it did not work on the Mountain max? Am I wrong?

notch works fine on that sled/motor. It opens up the boost port that is partially blocked by the stopper.
Spacers will increase the case volume just a touch, which in theory will make more power but I doubt you'll ever notice a difference between one or the other unless you are tuning on a dyno. They will both open the boost port so you don't have to do both.

I have vForce in my mm, they came with spacers. They went in last spring so I haven't really wrung it out with them but it does feel snappier around the yard.
Right on
And answered for the next guy who's investigating

I have installed a few spacers on stock reeds and a few V-force reeds. My experience is that they seem to help in the bottom end, but that was it.

I remember reading a couple posts about the reed notches. Very little room for error when grinding the notch. Do a search on them. I wanna say, Mr. Sled or Gil had some issues with them snapping? If it were me, I would go with the spacers, I think less can go wrong with that route. Also, I got rid of my VF3's in my Viper. They were curling with not even 3k miles. I got stock reeds to replace. The VF3's seemed a little snappier but couldn't justify spending what they wanted for the just the reeds to be a "little" snappier. Just my .02

IMO:
On the "Red Head" Non-power valve tripples like in the Mountain Max, reed spacers are an absolute must. The greatest benifit of the spacers is that they clean up mid range burble and stumble that can occur with the partial blockage of the port just behind the reed cage, they also help slightly with the top end HP.
VForce reeds are not necessary on the Red Heads but I found the Carbon Tech reeds to be a noticeable improvement on both the 600 + 700 SX tripples.
If you are porting and tripple piping your MM you might then want to consider different reed cages like Vforce or Boysen.

Well, since he got rid of his MM, guess he won't be needing those spacers after all..............

vforce do not need spacers, they do not use a stopper so there is no blockage.
If you really want to fix the issue, install viper/srx reeds and notch those. The stopper is the same but mounted further back on the cage. They also are a little better design with more area but you will have to do some grinding in your case to get them to fit. I have a thread on it somewhere. you can block off the inside of your case with tape and towels, run a vacume while your grinding so you don't get anything in the motor.

Having installed a set of vForce reeds myself new I can say that the kit does have 3/16" spacers and there are reed stoppers as part of the design. The reed petals would fly open and break off.

The v force 3 (cheapo snap together version) has stoppers, All the other versions do not and are a much better reed design, this being one of the reasons. If you use the style with no stopper, you do not need the spacers.

I put reed spacers in my 01 sxr 600 last month, with the stock reeds. I have not run it on dyno but it does seem a little more snappy on the low/mid range. I rode 150 miles last sunday and was pleased with the way it performed, along with a bored stock silencer! Im all about cheap mods!!
