I got my new to me Viper all ready to go and discovered the right grip isn't heating up. The left grip works fine so I'm assuming the control is fine and the non working grip is damaged on the end from some type of mishap from the previous owner. My question is, I ordered a used grip that they claim works is the any way to test it prior to installing it on the sled?? I thought I'd take a gamble on the used one first, but I want to know the heat element works before I drill the rivet and pull the old one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys

Check the resistance with ohmmeter If it open than it is no good. Should be close in resistance to the known working one.

Thanks I'll try that before I take the old one off. I know the grip is riveted, but is there some type of adhesice between the grip and the bars? Thanks Gil

The grip should measure 1.6k ohms. You can hook it up to a 12v battery if you don't have an ohmeter. It will get hot if its good. Yamaha has used an epoxy adhesive when the factory installs the grips. They also give that epoxy when you buy their updated grips for a 4stroker. I have used just regular 5 min epoxy when installing mine.
