I found a NOS, never sold, but ridden 1975 Merc Snow Twister 440 L/C. I saw it in a corner of a local Mercury dealer. I asked about it, and found out that the machine was never sold. They have had the sled since fall of 1974. The dealer ship has been in the same family for well over 50 years. I believe there story, as I know the people personally. As I under stand, one of the service techs got it running last year and did a run across the lake and siezed the motor. Suspect bad crank seals. I asked about selling it, they won't do it, but do plan on restoring to Original condition and setting on display. The seat is cracked, and the chrome shocks are rusted but the hood and tunnel looks great. If I can sneek some photos I will post. Al

Merc Sno Twister
It can't be a L/C Snow Twister since they didn't come out untill 76. IT is more than likely a 440 F/A. Here are some pic's of each the first one is a T/T but the F/A looks the same just red graphics instead of blue. The second is the 76 Sno Twister L/C.

OK, the graphics are red/black and is definatly a L/C. I saw the motor. Maybe it is a 76???? The carbs look pretty small, possibly 38 mm???? The clutch was a comet clutch, I am sure of that. I will try to get some cell phone photos next time I am there. What motor would this be?? I know Merc did not build the engine's in these years. Unlike the Hurricanes which were built by keikifer aeromarine. I would like to buy this and put in my own collection. Al
Merc L/C
It will be a Kohler motor. They used Kohlers on all there F/A, T/T fan cooled and L/C. Stock clutch was Artic Cat Hex clutch. But Merc Kohlers were not the same as found on other sleds like Rupp etc. They made more HP than most other manufactures. On the L/C the hood doesn't hinge up like other sleds the hood just lifts off out of the way. Plus the handle bar will be looped on one end and the whole column will be off set to the left. No windshield also. Here is a few pic's of under the hood of my sled. Hope this helps. Dave

Merc S / T
The liquid cooled S / T came out in 76. I have had a few 75's and 76's. They haul the mail! My 76 440 wanted to jump straight up off the ground and fly!
Either way 75 or 76 is a great find. Are you thinking of making an offer on it?
