Hi guys, new member. I picked up a used (duh) 97 mountain max 700 at the start of last year. Has been running great, but a couple of issues have come up..

1. It wont shut off! None of the kill switch, key, or tether will shut the sled off. I've done a little research and it seems the likely culprit is a broken, or loose ground wire. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Started to hapen after some warm wet and then cool weather.

2. Bog on start-up. Fires up fine, but will bog if given any fuel. I will check the plugs tonight and report back. Once the sled has warmed up after riding for 5 minutes the problem is gone and everything is fine.

3. It smokes like a bugger upon start up, and sometimes on idle although usually not once its hot. I was loading it on the trailer last night Extremely cold weather and noticed smoke comming out from the exhaust connection at hte middle cylinder (maybe elsewhere but that was the main source). Also seemed a little wet/mucky around that area. The sled does have triple pipes (not sure what brand). Kinda looked like there was some black sludgy buildup below that pipe connection as well. I believe this smoking goes away once the sled is warmed up, but i didn't run it long enough to tell yesterday.

Thanks in advance.

Update, since it looks like some people have read this thread.

Fixed the kill/key switch problem. Found two break in the line, one at the kill switch and another after the key. Fixed and everything runs well.

Weather warmed up and the sled didn't bog on start at all. I had the idle set a little low and adjusting that up seemed to help.

Once I had everything fixed up went out for a ride yesterday and the machine ran great. heavy but fun machine none the less.
