I bought a 2002 viper I think the sled is set up more for racing and didn't know it, but anyways I am only peaking rpm at about 8100 then it settles in around 79-8000. From what i read I should be at 8500rpm.
I am guessing I need to change weights in clutch but not sure what to change.
The sled is stock except for clutch.

50/40 helix green spring wrapped to 60
8ca weights 4.5 middle 3.6 tip

Any suggestion? Thanks

Dont know about the clutch weights but my buddies 01 sxr would only turn 8000 all last winter, actually dropped to 78-7900 towards the end. We tore motor down (had 10k on it with out being apart) turned out he had mag side crank bearing on its way out. He put 1200 miles on it last season and that was the only symptom there was any problem. Refurbed and turns 8500 now.

Check the valves and be sure they are working, if stuck/pulled through or servo not working the rpms will be down also.

Checked power valves, not pulled through. The motor runs good, pulls hard but only to 8000rpm. Just thought it might be clutching to much mid weight or tip weight?

thanks

either to much weight or clutch binding.I had binding primary on my SRX years back..so before season ended..took the primary from my 600..changed weights/rollers and wow the SRX was pulling rpm's again.I really couldn't get past the 8000 mark before and after back to normal. So in the off season decided to rebuild the clutch's

what primary spring is in front clutch? i will also say that a 8ca is a aggressive weight and also that 60 degree twist wont be enough if your getting decent traction with a 50 start helix, your overshifting it.

I don't know the color of the primary spring color has wore off. It engages about 4200 if that helps any. When I got it is was only twisted to 30. I moved it to 60 on someones advise. Where should I start to fix the overshifting problem and get my rpm back up? How do you tell when it up shifts?

I will try 80 twist. Let you know tomorrow if it works. Thanks a bunch to everyone who has helped me out a number of times!
