looks GREAT..I loved my 78 exciter to death..could not break it or destroy it.I put on 5000 miles on mine and did not a thing to it..then put on consignment at the Yamaha Dealership and bought my 81 SRX after that.Wish I could have both them sleds back...

I remember having a 78 exciter. First Yamaha we had after switching from Merc. Great machine. Good job. Get the ski shocks rechromed and installed for a touch of bling. Al

Thanks everyone for all the praise, I appreciate it.
I have learn so many things on this restoration, everything from electrical to paint with a spraygun.
Im from Sweden so i hope my english is good enough, i hope all technical english is right.
These things, I have replaced:
Piston Replacement with new gaskets, bearings, inlet rubber and so on.
Changed powerblocen against a YP clutch and rebuilded it with NOS bushings Weights and so on.
New Engine mounts
New Ignition Coil
Painted fan covers.
Switched to an ignition lock in better condition.
NOS Choke wire.
Changed the rear bumper (Thicker model from 1980.)
Better used skis and repainted
NOS handlebar grips
New windshield
Windshield trim
New seat cover
Painted hood, rear suspension parts
Changed track
Changed all fuel hooses
Changed snow flerp?
New gas wire
And many more things...
And most of the things i have bought on Ebay.
Exciter 440 is soon almost as difficult to find as the SRX 440 here in sweden.
I was lucky to get this sled and a ET 400 T/R -91 for 580$ usd and i fix the ignition on the ET and sold it for 1300$ So i got the EX for free
And find used Exciter parts in great shape is even harder to find, so to get this sled in this condition i couldn´t do it without parts from US.
