ss440 carb change
I have an 82 ss440, bored. 30 over with trail porting, DG pipe, have comet 102c and/or 108c clutch. I would like to switch to a mikuni carb. 38 or 36??? It is now premix, oil injection delete. Any ideas as to how big of a carb and jetting?? Any suggestions for baseline clutching? It's my first yammie and I need to kick my buddies tiger 500 in our vantage rally.. any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Myself I would go to a 38mm mikuni Round slide but start around the same jetting as the CV carb you have on now! First read the plugs before changing the carb and see what they look like. I would also go a top gear change if you want some more top end mph.

Thanks!! Besides changing gears, would you make any secondary changes? Different spring ? etc.

hey bud you should post a pic of what your secondary looks like if its like my 440 which is an 1980 you can take a used red polaris spring in it which restores it to its original strength i did this mod today.... and what a difference it made on my top end. it shift better into my top end and takes off like it should.
i ran a comet 102c on mine as well with f2 weights with a silver spring and it ran great on my 440

also check in some twin mikuni 28mm??? (dont qoute me on that size) carbs off of a polaris 440. there flat slide carbs work pretty well if you can find a way to twim carb it.
the reason i say to use these carbs is because they have more adjusments for all around tuning k sorry ill quit typing hope that helps

Thanks YN. Just saved me a bunch of guess work on my SS. Any changes to the airbox or leave it stock?

that would be jetting with filter instead of box air box on which everything will fit you be a tad leaner line 410 main and air screw 1.5 turns ...
