My oil light is on on my 2000 SRX 700. It also isn't giving me a gas level reading. Didn't know if anyone else has had thee types of problems and found a quick solution. I dont know if they are related, my guess is no. Also if anyone knows how to get the oil level switch out of the oil tank, I was also wondering how to do that. I didn't really just want to go pulling on it. Thanks

So, I got the oul level sensor out (it just pulls out). Now I am just wondering how to test it. Im guessing when it is out of oil, the switch is open. When it has oil, the switch is closed. If anyone has any other way of testing it please let me know.

Well, I guess no one has really had to deal with one of these, or if they did have a problem they probably just left it alone and made sure they had oil or bought a new one. Well I ended up tearing the darn switch apart and found out the problem. So I guess I am going to do a write up in case anyone else comes across this problem. First off I took it out and figured it must come apart. The little black cap on the end pops off and you can get into the part that actually activates the switch.

So when you get the cap off, the black body slides up

So after I got it to this point, you can see there is a spring at the bottom on the white plunger. The white plunger moves up and down inside of the black body. The spring that is on the plunger when the oil gets low, the spring touches the 2 rods together to complete the circuit. So when the spring would get down to the point it wasnt making continuity because the rods where old and kind of had a coating on it so the spring wouldnt work like it should. I sanded off where the spring lands on the rod. There you go.

Always got to like a post when there are pictures involved. Can I assume that you put it back together and all is working?

Nope, pulled up on the rod that holds the float and probably broke something else. Couldn't take it out to check it because I had too much gas in the tank. Never had a problem like that before. Guess that shows how much I have been riding.

I'll give it a try and let ya's know if it works for me. I'm having the same problem. Seems like a simple fix though ;)!

well, took it out and the rods looked fine but I took some light sand paper to them anyways but it still flickers on and off. gona dis-connect it for now until the oil gets low enough again to make the switch for a new sensor.
