you can try compressed air, that will get rid of the lumps of belt dust lodged between the spider and movable clutch shieve, then spray brake cleaner to wash away the finer dirt.

after you blow it out with air then spray it down with brake clean and blow it out again
I always use a fine emery paper to deglaze the shieves for better grip for belt. Then spray off with brakeclean. Then blow off with air.

this might be a stupid question. but im going to ask it anyhow. isnt it possible that the brake cleaner could hert the needle bearings if any gets in there. or am i suppose to avoid that area.

there are no needle bearings, just bushings and no it won't hurt any thing on your clutch.unless you have a roller kit but i think even then the bearings are sealed

I'm not sure I agree totally with Brad. I could be wrong, but I am not sure brake cleaner is good on the bushings. I do use it, but I try to keep it on the sheaves.

cleaning clutches
brake cleaner evaporates so it dosent stay on parts or bushings. i use it all the time at work and unless you scrape off lube it dosent bother it.
i use really fine sandpaper to clean sheaves, the finer the better but steel wool gives same results.

You should not use any cleaner that is petrolium based as it can get into the pores in the aluminum. I Use a scotchbrite pad and clean the sheeves and then I use Castrol Superclean mixed with 75% water. Spray it on scrub with a plastic bristel brush and hose it off. Then make sure that you dry them completely. Also do the same with the belt.

I must be a little old fashioned but I disamble my clutches and wash them in my wifes kitchen sink with dish detergent. Then knock the glaze off the shives with scotch bright. They come pretty clean. An Ultra max 3 belt helps some too.

No, you dont need to lube anything. As for the best cleaner, use Acetone. It dries faster than brake kleen and does not leave ANY residue behind. I used to use Brake kleen till I saw the difference first hand...BBY
