hello i have a 1989 exciter 570 w/electric start... its bored .020 over and has twin psi pipes.. my question is...do you have to have an airbox because i just have air cleaners......i have 320 main jets and my jet needle is on the 2nd clip position...... 140 pilot jets or something close to that... i just want to know the right tuning specifications i should have.... im at about 3000ft elevation and 20-60 degrees f* ......i just dont wanna blow her up......oh and any ideas on how to tighten the steering up....???? cuz its pretty loose...thnx
no you don't have to have an airbox I don't think, I seen other people run pod filters or K&N's (my favorite), you just have to watch your plugs to makes sure it didn't lean it out too much. Front end bushing kit might help with steering.

ya i check them regularly ....just in case... after it sits its hard to get fired up.. really hard .. i dont have the lever on the choke cables though... does it help out alot because any two stroke ive had that didnt want to fire up after sitting just dont wanna start without starting fluid or priming it with gas...choke never did too much.... it was back firing when i was tryin to start it up today and once it started it would sound like little backfires out the pipe ..it cleared out finallly....and ran good for 2 min.then it started bogging kinda and i realized the big screw on my carbs one rattlled off..... just spraying gas ...oop... well other than that its fine... my fuel mixture is really rich for protection because i just rebuilt it...could my timing cause that?

you need the choke cable, sounds like the carbs are out of sync,

ya nice data sheets thanks.. but does anyone know for sure if running without airbox will be too lean? also the primary clutch engages at 4300 rpm.. isn that a little high.. 3700 is stock i think.....
I don't know about with the twin psi's but I had a singe aaen pipe with air pods and ran 280 mains at the same elavtion and temp. I had the air pods becuase it was a pain in the but to get to the carbs to clean or change setup with the factory air box. They do not work as well as the factory air box.
