My mountain Srx is acting up, I just went through all the wires and never found any rub thru's on the complete harness. I was going across the lake yesterday and everything Gave out, Headlight, Rpm tach, the highbeam light on dash and fuel gauge. Not even the temp light blinks 3 times on startup. Can Anyone point me in the direction or give me some suggestions? Sled is working great, no misfires at all. I figure it would have been a rub thru but I wasnt so lucky. I am leaning towards the lighting Coil or the stator? Whats your opinions?

Check the 2 relays by the CDI, I don't know if it's the white or the blue one that gets the mositure in it. I think Mr. Viper said to take in the house overnight to dry it out. Mine was doing the same thing.

There are 2 voltage regulators and a rectifier/regulator, Are these the ones you are talking about? This is a 98 so is there any differences in the electrical?

Pull the pad cover and pad in between the handlebars and check the wiring there. I had a flickering headlight problem/no power to the brake light switch and found 3 broken wires there. They were by the cowling in the middle of where the handlebars mount to the steering shaft. I had to peel back a bunch of the tape and bam there they were. They were rubbing on the steering shaft. I Fixed them by cutting about 4" out of the wires, used some new wire, soldered them together and used heatshrink tubing and electrical tape, re-routed them and voila.

I guess Ill have to haul the wires out again and have another look, every now and then the rpm gauge will jump to about 5000 rpm when I am on the handlebar, obviously sled is reving 8400 though. Then when I slack off the throttle it goes right back to 0 zero! If there are wires that is grounded, could this burn up the Stator?

I would check where I suggested first. It will only take about 10-15 mins. But yes if a wire is dead shorted to ground, it can burn up the stator eventually.

Another rub thru place that isnt mentioned often (that ive seen anyways) is right where the harness plugs into the CDI box. The harness takes a sharp 180 degree turn before it plugs into the box. It rubs on the footwell and causes all sorts of hell with the electrical system. Takes about 10mins to unbolt the CDI box and take a look. Hope you fix it!

Edit: CDI box is above the left footwell(sitting on the sled) and underneath the fairing.

I've seen a few times the wires that go under nieth the engine usually rub on the rubber coated tabs that secure them to the belly pan. I'd un wrap them and have a look. You can un plug them and use a dvom to test for continuity to ground through the harness sometimes to speed up process
