Have a 96 Vmax 600 XT that hasn't been ridden in a few seasons. I bought it from a sled mechanic so I was able to put a rider on it and go without problem.

Aside from draining fuel and replacing 4 times in 2 years, it starts and runs great. However trying to get it to move is a different story. The belt will smoke and the sled won't move. After you try this and let it sit for a minute or so, it will move just fine. I'm assuming once the corrosion is worn off some, the belt is glazed at this point and it just sits there and smokes while the primary spins around it?

There is tons of corrosion on the primary clutch and secondary. The belt seems to be extremely tight & the top of the belt sits flush with the secondary. I've never worked on a yamaha clutch/secondary so I'm ignorant.

How do I open the secondary to remove the belt so I can clean things up?

I've noticed the secondary has around 3/16ths of in/out play in it also. It did shred a Dayco belt 2 years ago, but an old buddy swapped the belt before we noticed he was missing so I never got to see how he swapped it out.

Also the sled does creep every other stop or so. My track is extremely loose & needs to be tightened. Could this be why it creeps?

To open the secondary set the parking brake, use a 12mm wrench to turn the secondary helix clockwise while pushing it in.
The track tension will have no effect on it creeping. That is all effected by belt tension, like the belt is too short, the primary is stuck on or the center to center measurement is too far apart.

How do I adjust belt tension? Quick tutorial would be awesome

Nevermind a search for "belt deflection" solved my questions!

As far as belt tension search "clutch alingmanet" I have never set parking brake or used a wrench. I just push the center of the secondary in while rotating clock wise, which opens secondary. Belt drops down in and lets you rolled it off the bottom. Use dishsoapy water and a one of them green scrubby pads to get the heavy off. You can use real fine sandpaper as a fininshing step. While you have the belt off take a look at the bushing/rollers in the primary. If you have anything frozen/seized up that will kill the effectiveness of your clutch. Is sled fully warmed uped before trying to move sled? This wis also create a cloud of smoke and not want to go if sled is cold.

It gets a 3-4 minute warm up before it moves. The smoke is definitely from the belt. The odor, color & location tell me so haha.

Wasnt suggesting the cloud was from the belt. I have had several 94-96 vmax 600s and I would let the run closer to 8-10minutes warming up and would sometimes still get that cloud. Some were worse than others.

Gotcha. In my original post I may have been not that clear. There is a billow of brown smoke from the clutch/belt LOL that is separate from the billow of exhaust smoke while cold. She is a smokey machine until warm.

Just speculaiting on the chain case statement. If fluid is like mud or has water in it that has now turned into an ice cube in there it could case problems. Doubtful thats your main problem as sled goes and stops, even creeps every other stop. Still a good idea to give it a look see and flush out unknow crap and refill with fresh.

No I have not. I will now that you asked. What is your reasoning?
my guess is he's just wondering if there's any fluid in there or if there's water in the fluid which would have rusted the chain and siezed it's links.

Anytime something's set for a while... 1, 2 seasons or more. It's a good thing to clean the clutches & belt, inspect the belt for dry rot maybe even. Then clean out the chaincase & refilled with new oil. Clean those carbs too!!
