Hello, just installed a 1.25" ripsaw track on my 02 viper and noticed the lugs are hitting 2 aluminum square tubes tack welded in front of heat exchanger thats just forword of the drive shaft. Im wondering if these are just protectors that can be removed or if its a structural part of the exchanger. Maybe i should switch to an 8 tooth driver, but with all the research i did i thought this track would work with my stock drivers. I will not be studding this track so that wont be an issue. Thanks for the help. I found this site last year and love it!

trim the lugs slightly where it rubs. They can be removed but its easier to just cut a lil bit off with a sharp knife

Should have removed the heat exchanger protectors when you did the track install....I hope you are not planning on studding. I know you can trim the track but that kind of stinks trimming a brand new track. I removed my protectors back when I installed my first 1.25" track. I run a 1.35 Cobra now. That's about the limit before switching drivers. You mention switching drivers. If no studs are planned knocking out the protectors is much easier and cheaper.

there shouldnt be that much to cut off to worry about. Would be a pain to take skid, drivers, track, etc off and reinstall again. just my opinion.
also journey is right. no need to buy new drivers

One of mine has a 1.25 ripsaw and the previous owner removed the protectors. I've heard mixed reviews on trimming or not trimming. I've had no problems running without on mine.

Thank you guys for all the info. I think i will remove the protectors. Im not studding anyways and im not wild cutting my new track.
I trimmed mine. There are 4 little tabs you need to cut on each row. Take a sharp knife and nock off 1/8 inch. Takes about 20 minutes and you are done. No one can notice 'til I point it out...

I ran into that problem when I put an Ice Ripper on my Viper. I used an exacto knife and you can notch the corners that hit real easy. Theres only a couple per row you need to trim, and it isn't even the whole lug....doesnt take long and you can keep your protector's in.
