I'm not afraid to complain about my local dealers, so I feel compelled to give kudos when I have a good experience.
After having another dealer take my Viper clutch apart to change the sliders on the spider. I discovered aparently the sliding sheeve bushing should've been replaced also as it still hangs up a little at initial engagement from a dead stop.
So, I ordered the bushings for the entire clutch and this time took my clutch to Babbitts (other dealer) in Muskegon. They quoted my 1 hr flat to disassemble and press in the new bushings. I felt that was fair and brought them my clutch and bushings. I told them that the clutch was just apart at the other dealer so they shouldn't have trouble getting the spider off.WRONG!!!
I called the next day and was advised that when they arrempted to remove the spider their wrench twisted off and craked my spider. They had ordered me a new one and apologized for the delay. I knew that could happen, that's why I let them do it with the proper tools.
I feel they were honest and fair, they could've tried to put it back together with the crack and let me discover it or tried to blame it on me or the other shop for it being so tight, but they didn't. They just straight up bought me a new spider and still apologized for the delay. That alone will bring me back there for future repairs that are over my head or that I don't have the right tools for.

Did they charge you for the cracked part? I ask as Babbitt's used to have a disappointing reputation.

If they cracked it upon removal, should they buy the replacement?

Please no bashing, just your thoughts and comments.

NO it was no charge for the spider ($187) they ate the cost as the service manager said they broke it they'll fix it. I know they have had a problem with their reputation in the past. Maybe a new attitude on their part.

I had a good experience with my local dealer once when my motor mount bolts were broken off in the block and the water pump was leaking. The service girl said they worked on it for 2 days getting it done and she passed me my bill and it was for 1 hour of labour. I was pretty happy about that! and it was a year or 2 after the warranty was over.

Just to update , I got my clutch back today with the new spider installed. They charged me the original $65 that they quoted for putting the new bushings in and not a dime more. They still apologized for the delay waiting for the new spider. I have no problem using these guys again. Gil

...and If I read your original post right, you brought your own parts to have them install them. With good reason, a lot of shops shy away from installing customer's parts. Often times the labor charge isn't worth the headache.

I actually ordered the bushings from them. Their parts court and service shop are in 2 different buildings. Gil

I have two dealers within 40 miles, and I can't stand the one. Even though its cheaper,
You can't walk 5 feet without be bombarded by another salesman. I was looking at
Gloves and the salesman said the ones I was looking at were awesome and the only
Onesshe would use, I changed my mind and grabbed another style, same salesman told
Me the same story about them being best. Etc.... 10 minutes in store I had to try escaping
From 6 salesman. I'm done there. I pretty much shop online now...
Too bad. I don't wanna be ignored shopping, but being swarmed
is worse. And I hate being questioned by some kid salesman who
Doesn't even no the difference between 2 &4 strokes, but he knows I
I need moat expensive machine there... time before last I had to go
Through 4 kids before I found manager because PC's were down and noone
Even heard of a microfiche even after I described it
Why are kids so dumb these days???? Judas priest
... rant complete!
