Graphite vs teflon cam buttons, anyone have any thoughts on these materials as cam buttons. yamaha uses graphite, I'm assuming it has longer wear propeties but at 15 a pop they are expensive. I've managed to find ptfe buttons from spi for 2 a piece. That's 7 buttons per 1 graphite. Ptfe is also slicker then graphite and performs better in wet environments, the primary drawback is it starts to breakdown at 500f. I wouldn't think that would be an issue on a clutch. Anyone have any exp or thoughts?

you could try the cheaper ones and see how they perform... at 2.00 a piece, thats cheaper then a chicken teriaki sub from subway. lol. it would be an interesting test. what exactly is this ptfe?

Ptfe is teflon. My assumption is they may need to get changed every season. But at 2 I could go 7 seasons before I match the the cost of the graphite.

I have tried the cheapie ones and they do not make it very far..even if they are cheap, they wear fast..The OEM are more money but can go for seasons..

I agree the graphite will outlast the ptfe but not 7 years worth. The buttons are available in nylon as well. Do you know which type you tried.

Also, ptfe has a much lower friction coefficient. In fact it has the lowest friction coefficient of any solid lubricant.

I have ran the spi's and they perform fine, but do wear faster.I believe I got 2-3000 miles out of my last set of spi's where the originals went for like 8-9000 miles.I don't have a problem with them especially with how cheap they are and easy to change as well.
