My 98 SRX 700 has two overflow or expansion tanks in the cooling system as do the rest. I'm not sure whether you actually need any coolant in the second tank which is part of the injection oil tank or if its redundant. This is the same coolant/oil tank that is found on the SX models.

there is only one reserve tank for cooling system. the other 1(looks like 2)is for oil. not sure why it is set up like that. have not looked at one that close. i looked at schematic. does not show all the components involved on one page.

That little tank that is part of the oil tank on the 98 SRX is not hooked up to anything. If you check the bottom you should find the nipple does not even have a hose on it. Try pouring a little water in it and I bet it will just run out the bottom. I think they must have just used the same tank as the SXs to avoid having to design a new one.
The 2000 + up SRXs have a different oil tank.

why not just plug the bottom on it and try and punch a hole thru the side of it into the oil tank..then you could fill it up and have extra oil on board for riding.

I can remebmber who but some one back in the day tol like oil tod me that the oil/coolant tank was designed to warm the oil in extreme temps. Supposedly to turn thick oil to nice pouring oil. Was like yeah okay what ever if you say so

funny you say that blue, i never knew any different until now but the main tank and the little one on the side are both functional on my srx. when i fill up the main one, the small one fills also. and when the main one gets low, the smaller one starts going down as well.
