Hey guys im planning on pulling the motor out of my 98 600 when "winter" is over [if it ever begins]. Its got 4000 miles on it and I want to do a top end on it. Im gonna pull it out so I can do some cleaning, repair/re route the engine harness etc. Since its a 98 I want to verify the crank has been welded. Will I be able to see this with out splitting the case or will it need to be torn down to verify. I have no problem tearing it down to nothin but by the sounds of it on here 4000 is relativly low miles for the bottom end no need to fix it if it isn't broke. I figure if i can verify the crank repair I will fill each individual case with gas and check for seal leakage[found that method in another post anybody have luck with it]. Also do you guys only recommend oe parts or are there some aftermarket companies worth looking at. Thanks again for the help

There's a write up under TY tech, Engine, and at the bottom "YAMAHA SRX 1998-2000 crank info." about your crank. I believe the only way to verify it is to do a complete tear down and look for the three crank wrist pins to be welded. It seems to be a larger issue if your running studded also.
Most all of the truly experienced guys will tell you to run OEM in everything if you want reliability.

I would go ahead and split it and put new seals in. Like mentioned above, you pretty much have to anyway to check if it has been welded. Also, nobody that I have found makes aftermarket parts for the SRX 600 so get ready to bend over. If your pistons are good, I would just put a set of rings in it.
Thanks guys for the info. The local Yammi dealer mentioned that picked sleds had the most problems and that if mine has made it 4000 miles it will most likely be fine. I ride this thing hard and an unwelded crank being a week point in any tripple or any 2 stroke for that matter "most likely" just don't cut it for me. I will plan on a complete tear down. besides a reseal and re-ring anything else you guys recommend engine or sled wise while the motor is out
