In the process of putting the motor back in my 98 SRX700, has a small fire and melted the airbox, charred some fuel and oil lines and possibly some wiring. I've replaced the line to the pump from the oil tank, and realize that there is a bleed screw, but that doesn't bleed the lines running from the tank to the fuel pump. I will liikely run the pump wide open if and when the motor restarts, but don't want to run oil in the "full" gas tank. I may run the fuel line to the pump into a jug of premix until I am confident that air is purged from the oil lines to the fuel pump. What have those of you who have done this done?

fuel pump should still have mixed fuel but take pump cable out of throttle lever and hold wo crank sled over ten times with switch off then start with cable still wo then let it idle for about 30 sec and then crack the bleeder screw still wo on oil pump cable then close it up as soon as u see a little oil trickle should be good to go if ur still nervous the let it idle with cable clamped off wo she will start to smoke they got a good pump never had one not prime up just my 2 cents

oil pump

Yes that is a bleeder screw. I run the gas with oil mixed for the first tank and with the sled running loosten the screw and wait for oil to purge out, then tiighten and it should have purged the air out with only oil being pumped. Always worked for me. Dont remove the screw !!!!! Little bugger is a B#@%*H to get back on.

Question, why would you wait until the sled is running until you purge or bleed the pump? I packed some toweling around the bleed hole and opened it up and let oil fun, possibly and ounce of so, and never saw a bubble, just oil. I use a needle nose vice grip to hold the cable full on,

Just rebuilt my 99 engine (crankshaft and up) and got a good education on the oil/fuel delivery system. You got it right with pre-mixing your first tank to ensure you have enough oil till any kinks get worked out of your lines. If your hoses are routed correctly, you should see oil and air escape when you loosen the bleed screw. As the previsou guys said dont completely remove it or you'll have a mess. next you need to ensure the lines from the pump to the fule pump have oil as well.( two lines combined at "T" and then out to fuel pump). i simply removed these lines and used a syringe to squirt oil in the lines, and then replaced them. it may be easier to do thi BEFORE the bleed screw operation. Thats it, your pre-mix will ensure any air bubbles you didn't catch does notdamge your engine during break in.

Definitely pre-mix the first tank of fuel you run through the motor. Just mix it up 50:1, mark your oil tank with a piece of tape or something so you can make sure it is in fact pumping oil. Mixing the first tank will keep you from burning down if you did have something wrong with your oil system.

Just every one keep in mind this is my OPINION. Mixing first tank I feel is excessive and may lead to problems. When your oil pump is up and running as it should with pre-mixed fuel you are basically creating a LEAN on fuel or RICH on oil situation. I pre-mix 2 gallons, let sled idle or take it easy putting around burning up most of 2 gallons. Oil pump should be all good to go after 2 gallons, running an addition 10 more gallons of pre-mix may get some of us into trouble. Also keep in mind fine tunning carbs while running pre-mix and injecting oil may lead to problems when pre-mix no longer part of the eqaution.

I never pre mixed the gas when I rebuilt my 2 motors.I just bleed the pump prior to starting, pulled the oil cable full for the first 5 minutes of running. If you can't see thru the smoke..you are good to go..unless you have passed out because of the smoke. In that case someone should call 911...lol

like JDVipers pic of the viper running in the garage through the smoke. that was a great pic.

I am thinking I should pull out the sleds and run them with oil cable pulled to fog for the mosquitoes that are trying to bite me.There has not been many, but the few little critters where bugging me...get it..bugging me..oh well.Been moving topsoil all day in the high heat today..blasted heat has got to go..looks like the drought is officially here now, grass turning brown now....:o|
