Questin about oil pump and fuel pump on 98 SRX 700

Was curious as to why there are two lines running out of the oil pump which join prior to going to the fuel pump, and then noticed that there appear to be a jumper or connecting tube on the fuel pump that runs from one side of the pump to the other?????

Anybody know about these things??
