Is the upgraded axle worth it?

I have a '97 MM with a 151" track. I'm in process of replacing the stock drivers with anti-ratchets. Is it worth upgrading to the newer style axle? I really haven't heard much about the stock ones breaking, but with the extension I'm running, didn't know if it was more important to upgrade.

I broke mine, it sucks, but I think the main reason they break is that when you use a longer track with the stock Yamaha suspension the track tightens when the suspension compresses, with anti ratchet drivers you should be able to run the track loose enough that it isn't an issue.

Easier to change it now. Ive seen two that have had a twist in them. I was lucky I found it before it snapped. Have not herd of one problem with the upgrade axle.

Do the upgrade, you'll break the old one before too long. Mine went while riding solo, luckily it snapped inside the driver so I could limp it back to my truck.

Yes, yes, and yes. I've snapped 2 personally (one was a stock MM700). Sucks when it happens in the back country...

It's a good idea to replace those bearings on there too if it hasn't been done lately.
