i have not taken out needles on these type carbs before. wanted to raise needles as mrviper700 suggests. rather use a little more gas than melt pistons. fairly easy? any tricks? i looked in manual did not see much.
remove the top cover ..unscrew the 2 little allen key ..hold the trotthle fully open and remove needle with a magnet .....select the way u want the needle position
you can also take the slide holders right out. it opens up room and makes everything that much easier. be carful of the shims.. they are very small and easy to drop and have them dissapear into oblivion.

will be even better when i get to my brothers viper. i kind of talked him into getting the vipe instead of keeping 2001 sx700r. have to admit we have already ? the decision. need to do all we can to keep from being regretful
exactly thats what ive been doing too. its so much easier to figure out the quirks ask questions and fix them before hand. then pay the piper... so many people have been there done that bought the t-shirt... so all we have to do is learn from past mistakes and be that much better off without all the expensive (i didnt realize that could happen) repairs in the future. yamaha preservation lol.davidgboy said:will be even better when i get to my brothers viper. i kind of talked him into getting the vipe instead of keeping 2001 sx700r. have to admit we have already ? the decision. need to do all we can to keep from being regretful

yup- i still feel bad about being an a$$wipe at times on here. was a good place to vent.my viper was pissing me off with that idle hang. i am afraid i alienated mrviper700. dont blame him actually. first impression wasnt good. past is gone now though. at least i offered an apology to all. what else can u do?

oh nor the second, third..........impress. lol
A long tweezer can help with getting the slide lifter out after the allan screws are unscrewed. You just push the slide lifer sideways off the shaft then with the tweezers maneuver it around so it comes out.

I have adjusted the needles with the carbs on the sled but for the first time I would suggest you do this with the carb rack removed from the sled and sitting on the work bench. Its also a good time to clean the carbs...don't forget the "top hat" fuel screens under float needle seats.

X2 The first time I did them it was on a bench. You'll save your back and not be rushed.
