As i said, im new to the forum, and brand new to sleds. Just bought a 98 SRX, and its in good shape, BUT: Took out the one powervalve and the front sharp edge, was knocked by the piston. Its tip is flattened, and bent over. I can see something damaged it pretty bad. Guess i dont have to ask if i have a serious problem. Rode it today, and i think i also have the rub through issue going on, that im willing to sort out. It runs, every now and again the water temp light would flash and then it just dies. I can however start it immediately again, and easy as well. Please give me advice, as i dont want to destroy the motor completely.

could always tie or remove the valves for now and still ride, low end may suffer for a small bit.but safer until you can solve the issue with the valves.Maybe the stop in the cylinder broke off allowing valve to go in further to touch piston..

I could just completely remove them or what, like i said im clueless. This couldnt have anything to do with the engine shutting down could it?

Ive seen an srx suck in 2 powervalves and spit em into the pipes. The rest of the engine wasent pretty. Id tear into it before that happens.

Id take it apart and see whats up. Those srx's wont work worth a damn without properly functioning powervalves. I had a '98 that had just one pull-through and my 94 vmax 500 would have beaten it badly. I wouldnt run the sled without them, that just sounds foolish to me.

At the very least I would pop that head off and get a good look at top of piston and bottom side of head, Rolled motor over until piston is all the way done to get a good look at cylinder. If you got lucky debri went right out the exhaust. If not it may have bounced around in there beating the snot out stuff. Could cost pennys to fix right now or DOLLARS later! Whats a couple more rides worth? Like the old saying goes "a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"
