I was going over some things the other night with the sled, adjusting the pvs checking throttle free play etc and on a whim I figured I'd see what the oil pump was set at.So I pull out the calipers and mic the gap,15mm,WTF?
When did I set it to that gap?
Sigh what a bonehead. So I set it to 20.5mm and I must say it certainly cut down on the smoking LMAO.The funny thing is I really don't think it used an inordinate amount of oil before

can one set the oil pump with the motor still in the chassis? is it just a matter of tightening the cable?

Yes the oil pump cable is set with the engine in the chassis,if you look there is a spot about the half way section of the cable where it has a rubber boot to cover the joint.Pull the boot back and you will see that the cable pulls out of a coupler and to adjust the cable there is a lock nut on the bottom of the coupler just loosen this off and set the length between the bottom of the cable and the top of the coupler.Typically it's set to 20-22mm,less mm open up the pump more and vise versa.

I have a funny feeling I set it rich that last time I rebuilt the engine or changed a piston or something and forgot to set it back.modsrx said:look like u stretch the cable
