I was over reving with my 53/43 helix and green spring. I bought 3 4.5g rivits to install which is the 17mm ones. Now to the confusion. When i read posts it says to install the 4.5g weight in the inner hole but according to yamaha parts fisch it already has the 17mm rivit in the inner and the 13mm rivit in the outer (i call the tip). Which is which before i drill and mess things up. Looking at them you can see that the inner (closest to mounting point) is larger then the outer (tip of weight) so it reasons to think the inner is already 4.5g. So here lies my confusion. Where do i put the 4.5g rivit??? :o| :o|

some of these sleds came with the weights pinned wrong, I wouldn't assume yamaha installed the correct weight in the correct hole.

Thanks guys! Not sure why post i read on the 53/43 over rev said to change inner, must have just been mistyped. Ill check my weights good also BTV to make sure they are where they belong.

Still a bit confused!

Ok, i got that im changing the tip rivet to 4.5g. By yamaha parts fisch it shows stock 8ek weights with 4.5g inner weight with 3.9 in the tip (outer). I just dont get why my OEM manual for the viper says just the opposite. 3.6g inner and 4.5g tip (outer)? And reading every post i can fine on viper weights i find both answer's. Is my manual right or the parts fisch? :o| :o| :o| :o| Just looking for an answer for peace of mind!

huh, my 2002 tech manual shows 4.5 inner and 3.6 tip, :dunno: I would guess its simply a misprint if yours is differnt , and there is alot of times mistakes on microfiche.

install 4.5 in tip and let her rip!

by the way there is no such 3.9 gram yamaha rivet, i think your seeing the rivet length, which is 13.9 for the 3.6 gram rivet.

Thanks mrviper, yea ive been reading so much and overthinking this darn thing i got my numbers all mixed up LOL!! Got it now! Got the weights today by the way, thanks they look brand new!!

great, glad you can use em, had 3 sets here, just 1 more left...

you guys have snow for riding or just tinkering to pass time waiting for snow?

Got my first 200mi on 3 weeks ago in the lower in gaylord but thats all gone now. Going to try to make it up to the U.P this comming weekend. They say the snow is holding for now. Plus tinkering waiting for the snow, no riding just seems to get me into trouble. Going to use the extra weights to play with for fine tunning. I put my clutching back to stock to see where im at for RPM's as i had to go back to stock gearing when i installed the reverse. I have 8tooth drivers and was running 23/37. Once i know im at the right RPM's stock then i will try the 53/43 again.

DUDE, GET YOURSELF A 2002 YAMAHA TECH MANUAL. ALL YA NEED. ALWAYS ON EBAY. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Is that any different then the reg service manuals? Cause i have 2 of them, one for a 02 viper PDF and then the one for the 04S with the supplemental manual in paper. Was getting my info from the o4 manual. Ill check what the 02 says and compare. This work is on my 04S so i was just using that.

WAY DIFFERENT. YAMAHA GIVES YA A OWNERS MANUAL, SERVICE MANUAL AND A TECH MANUAL. GET A TECH MANUAL. THEY ARE THE BEST. 3:16 (yammie tony)

heres a pic for ya chris. these 8eks are stock out of a 2002 normal viper and have not been modified. all oem. it appears at least on these weights that the heavier weight is in the base and the lighter weight is in the tip. hope this helps. :letitsnow

That explains it then. WOW overlooked that for sure. My weights look just like yours andrew, thanks for the pic. Tony would this be the manual im looking for? http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-Yamaha...anuals_Literature&vxp=mtr&hash=item256bff2c99 Thanks for all the help guys. Still sorting out this clutch stuff, still new to me. Was hoping to play more with it this year but no snow for testing, so i didnt really get to where i wanted. Was hoping to start with the 53/43 thing then move on to HC's.
