I just bought a 98 SRX and opened the motor after i saw that 2 valves were beat to crap. Seems it had 2 viper valves. Opened all three to check for damage, but pistons look great. The one piston was opened before and was damaged, but replaced, the old head was put back on and the bottom looks like it went to war, its beat to hell. Now my questions, should i replace the rough head, and what is the chance some of that crap got to the crank and it might be damaged?

Couple questions, Piston was damaged but replaced? Previous owner told you this or you discovered this? Did PO split cases when piston was replaced? Depending on how bad head is they can be smoothed out. I would finish tearing motor apart, verify everythings okay, clean and reassemble with a new/used head. Prolly the last thing you want to do but knowing everythings up to par is better than thinking "Maybe its fine or maybe it will implode any minute. A few bucks on gaskets, yamabond versus rebuild crank, new pistons, cylinders and same few bucks on gaskets and yamabond down the road.
