how do you know when the clutch is wore enough that you have to rebush it. thanks guys

ideally... you should take it apart and inspect it. once a year. check all of your bushings and bearings for wear etc. eventually if your clutch gets wore enough ittle start binding and throwing off the shift curve. its a take apart and inspect everything deal once in a great while. as in rollers still rolling not flat spots wore, weight bushings side to side play fine... but up and down play they should not have much or any of. main clutch bushing the spiders plastic sliders 2ndary helix bushing, buttons etc. what it comes down to is inspection. have a manual on hand and inspect tolerances of anything you see that doesnt look right while your in there.

Mine started hanging up on engagement from a dead stop, you would have to rev it to 5 or 6 tousand before it would take off with a lurch. If you stopped just briefly but not enough to let it return to idle and the clutch to open all the way, it would engage as normal at around 3800rpm. I replaced the bushing on the sliding sheeve and the problem went away. (I had already replaced the plastic sliders on the spider, but that didn't help)

is it a good idea to replace the plastic sliders on the spider when installing new bushings? also can you use blue or red loctite when reassembling clutch parts?

well if they arent wore to bad there is no need to replace them ;)! as far a locktite goes th red locktite may be a little extreme. the blue locktite should work just fine.

How many miles? I have 8400 on mine and it still looks good. I take it apart after every season and have my machinist buddy I work with mic it out. I have a little button wear but not that bad considering its age and miles.

I totally rebuilt my clutches at 12000 miles and things looked a little worn and sloppy, but it still worked ok.It is for sure crisper and smoother with fresh clutches though!
