Is there any way to tell if you have a viper skid or shocks? my 98 srx sits up a lot higher then my 99. Seems to ride nicely too. I noticed on the ohlin shocks there is brackets on the top mount, extended travel? Also i've tried to figure out what can this is, but all the pics i find or 3 into 1, anybody know? Just like to know what i'm running with on the sled. Too many projects and not enough time!!

Also when i popped the chain case off the chain seemed very loose, it's got 39/23 gearing and the tensioner was over half way in. Is that normal?

Just bought the sled for 1500$. So far i've found boysen reeds, ohlin front shocks, the pipes, adjustable transfer rods, bender secondary, and still finding goodies. Damn near got my money back just in extras.
The chain should not be loose, the adjustment spec is to turn the tensioner bolt in until finger tight, as this removes any slack/looseness in the chain.
The Yamaha factory shop manual shows gearing at 1.696 (39/23) for the SRX600, and 1.609 (37/23) for the SRX700.

Your skid looks like it could be from a Viper. The aluminum rails definately are not 98/99 SRX, and they look more like Viper (not sure on 00/02 SRX). The transfer rods have the double nuts like the factory Viper, the rear wheels look like Viper and not SRX.
Check your shock length, center of eye to center of eye. I'm not sure of the exact specs but by eyeball Vipers are about 13" for the small front shock and 18 1/2" for the large rear shock, loose from the suspension. Installed in the suspension and out of sled like in your pic, the lengths a likely similar but could be a touch shorter if they aren't fully extended. SRX shocks by comparison are about 1"- 1 1/2" or so shorter than the numbers above. Again these aren't exact specs but close enough to tell quickly with a tape measure. Someone here may have exact specs.
Also looks like you may be missing 4 of the bogie wheels, unless you already removed them. You see the empty holes in the aluminum rails that have had something previously installed in them: 2 wheels on the outside right behind the 2 that you have, and 2 wheels on the inside towards the back almost directly below the larger upper wheels.
