Spark plug boots?

Just wondering what the proper procedure is to install new spark plug boots. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Wait. Before you start screwing around, cut off 1/4" of wire to get fresh copper to the boot.
 
Thanks for the info guys. One more thing, how do you check the resistance on the current spark plug boots I have now? I know that it should be 5 ohms.
