I have a 98 700 Vmax xtc with power inc end dump pipes and 89L weights, the person who sold me the pipes gave me 150 mains and 52.5 pilots. He suggested i set the carbs "150 across the board, 52.5 pilots, raising needles one clip and adding one turn to the air screw" everyone else seems to suggest 146.3 or 147.5 mains. I could be riding in weather anywhere from 0c-40c depending on the time of year and live near Ottawa Ontario.

I want to do the head gasket mod, spacer and put these pipes on so any help with the the clutch and jetting would be appreciated, i mainly run the lake or back woods trails. can I just add the weights and not bother replacing springs and going to a 51\42 helix?

Eddy you may want to search the tech section for set ups using the pipes you have. By running 150's you are giving yourself an insurance policy to avoid spending lots of $$$ to replace pistons and other parts associated with burn downs, plus the fuels of today are so piss poor that it takes a little bit larger jetting to compensate for the poor fuel issue. If you jet your sled spot on for 0*C and then you ride in temps that are -40*C you are asking for trouble as your jetting will be terribly lean, ALWAYS jet with a safety margin it is cheaper to replace plugs then pistons.

You can do the headgasket mod but you WILL NEED to run premium fuel otherwise you will possibly run into detonation issues and will mostlikely read like what is stated above. You can also do the reed spacer mod and that will help with the design issue in the intake tract and help your sled run/respond better.

There is a ton of info for clutch tuning in the tech section again youmay want to start there, as the setups have been tried and pretty much perfected, although one persons set up may not work for someone else as there are differences in weight, altitude, riding style and so on.

on the 98 XTC 700 we have here(Bluemonster2's sled) we had 150's ,but he dropped down to 147.5's across.Raised it 1 on the clip I believe and pilots remained the same.He has SLP pipes also on the sled.Really sounds good and good pu.It may have been a little to rich with the 150's.
