My 2000 SXR 600 triple blew a belt on saturday, and the broke pieces of the belt shredded the speedometer cable. I ordered another one for $27. How do install that to keep it out of the way of the belt? Any suggestions? I the cable just screws into the crank shaft area, so i know where that goes. Anyone have issues of belts taking out the cable?

had that happen to my 01 SXR600 years back .I was using an aftermarket belt..Ultramax(crap) belt.It blew and dented in the foot well goad and grabbed my speedo cable and ripped it almost right off the speedo.I have never had a belt ever go again while using stock OEM belts now.Still at that time was nervous of this happening again,so I slid a larger diameter hose over the speedo cable from where it attaches to the drive and up past the clutch.Never shreeded a belt after that, some 3 years ago..8DN belts are tough..and to think about it..I wanted to save a few $$$ buying aftermarket..but it cost me a new belt and a new speed cable and some extra work and pounding the footwell back in..nasty when they go at wot..

where did you get the large diameter hose to go over the speedo cable down from crank shaft hook up to past the clutch? I know where it hooks on both ends, but I'm not sure how to run it so its out of the way of the belt & clutch area. When the cable busted it bent the crap out of that aluminum peice that protects the cable. Any suggestions?

Just take a smaller diameter rad hose or a hose you buy for a dishwasher draihose.Just cut the length and then slice all the way down the middle. Then apply it over the cable and use zip ties every 3 inch's or so to keep it closed..works great.Actually hydraulic hose is what I used, got some from where I used to work years back.
