96mph in 2000ft
hi everybody finally got some some here in ontario never tested my new clutch set-up, i did 96mph in 2000ft and even in 3000 of 4000ft the max mph was 96, im running 8dn-20 with 4.5/4.5 with www primary spring, and green spring with 54/43 helix at 70wrap, i have a m-10 rear suspension with a 1.5" track and my front is also lifted with fox float, im running stock gearing 23/38. my question is how can i get more mph by adjusting the secondary wrap? should i try 80?? or down to 60?? and would i get more mph with the stock helix(47) ? thanks everybody. im in gravenhurst ontario!!

the 1.5 track is slowing you down for sure. You probably should be gearing down a tooth with that track. You didn't mention your rpm's.I ran stock clutch today y-w-y stock Spring with 8dn-20's with 4.5 in and 5.5 out with green at 70 with 51/43 helix. On a few inches of snow on the river only got up to about 105 on speedo which is about 100 ,didn't matter how far I ran.The belt is within 1/4"from top of primary ,so at full shift out.I am going to try my 47 tomorrow with Red Spring at 80.Should pu a liitle more with the Red Spring..
You ar not doin to bad with that 1.5 track. Are you at full shift out.Do the black marker trick and see how far your belt is climbing the primary first.

Sorry rpm was around 8500/8700, I know the track is slowing me down a lot should I gear down the bottom gear to 39 or the top to 22?? Thanks

not really sure which way to go,,I would think1 tooth down on top.Others can chime in here.On my 600 with a 1.25 track I geared down 1 on top and seemed to have better speeds.
your track is slowing you down but ive also heard that m10s kill your top end
Thanks guys! I know the track and m-10 is slowing me down, would it helped if
I played with the secondary???

its a game called testing...you have to try different helix's,different springs.different wraps..and keep notes on every change.Best to take sled somewhere and take part and tools with ya.Spend half a day switching things 1 at a time ..and run down the same pathway, same temps, same conditions. After you are done you will have an idea what works and what doesn't.I have been doing it for years now..but I am going to stop all that and just ride now...

testing and testing and more testing just because its turning right rpm doesent mean its going as good as it can.ive had many frozen fingers and hands testing i know it gets frustating but just keep at it.ive found set your rear at 60 and match front clutch to it ive always had better speed numbers set up that way.gearing down one on top and matching clutching will give you better top end.

That's pretty quick, 96 in a 1000' with m10 1.5" track. I just ran yesterday at the club radar run, about 100 sleds showed up. Temp was 29f and track was groomed packed snow, by the time i ran the first 30' of track was very loose, poor hook up unless you had picks. My runs we're 75, 82 & 85, in 1000', so they got faster once I found traction. My motor, gearing, belt and clutch are all stock, carb heater was on. Wife's best run was 79mph on the sx.
For a comparison a bone stock 98 srx picked hit 97mph. Fastest speed was by some turbo 105mph.
My speedo read 87mph during my fastest run..so over by a couple..lake runs wot my speedo showed 103mph..after we left..so I don't how much more it would be off the faster I went.

I would be most concerned with that 8700 rpm, 8500 should be target for top rpm. Overrevving looses power as well as aint healthy for longevity. I am no expert by any means but what was speeds at 600,1000ft? Figuring out where you get to that 96mph will help you figure where tunningwould be most effective as far as primary, secondary, or gearing.
Thanks everybody for the help! I know there's a lot of test and tune but we have no snow so When we get snow I just want to ride lol, I put my secondary at 60 so that will drop my rpm by 200, I'm on the lake right now so I'm going for a pass I'll be back

Well I didn't get a chance to do a radar run cause we just wanted to ride with the secondary warped @ 60 the rpm was right on at 8500+100 and I noticed it was a lot quicker up shifting, well we're going home now but if we have enough snow I'm going to do some 660ft radar runs I'm also going to test a 40tooth bottom gear I have too and play around with the secondary, my goal is to do 100mph in a 1/4mile is it possible???
96mph in 2000ft sorry the title is wrong.

One more question my speedo is of by 8 to 12 mph, is that because of the bigger track? And if I gear up to 40 bottom gear would that fix the problem?? Thanks

Changing the actual gears in the chain case will have no effect on the accuracy of your speedometer because it is driven off of the track drive shaft. If you change the number of teeth on the track drive sprockets then you will effect the accuracy of your speedometer.
The speedo on your sled was calibrated for 9 tooth drivers, if you change the drivers to 8 teeth the speedo would over indicate even more.

It's stock 9 tooth it has to be te track

The track lug height won't effect the speedo either as its all the length of track that is moved per rotation of the drive shaft...and that is done on the inside of the track so outside height means nothing for speedo accuracy.
Good to know well on speedo I hit 170kph but on gps and on radar it was 96mph which is around 155kph. Why would it be off by that much? And is there any way to fix it? Thanks

Thats why the speedo is often refered to as DREAM-O-METER! CLosest speedo I ever seen was +6 and its pretty common for them to 12-15+. Believe it or not this is also true with sppedos in your cars and trucks running down the road. Pretty close @ 55-60 but the faster you go the futher they get off.
