Picked up a 99 SRX 700. Sled had a run in with a stump, Brought it to a rather sudden stop. Per previous owner there were no fault codes prior to sudden stop. He said the tach and gas gauge periodically didnt work (thinking rub threw) Now light is flashin constantly 7 times, Indicating problem with power valves. Thinking this is also harness issue as it flashes even at idle. If it was an adjustment or bad servo wouldnt it only flashe at higher rpm? Or am I wrong in thinking that? Second issue is that hood flew open and snapped the hinge mount tabs right off flush. The rest of hood is perfect. Any one have any luck putting these back on? Any paticular kind of glue or epoxy to use? Any input greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

use JB weld to fix the hood, that stuff works wonders

Find/buy a plastic welder. This stuff is pretty good too. I buy it off the tool truck that comes to the dealership. http://www.rapid-fix.com/Rapid-Fix.com/HOME.html

there isnt a glue that will bond that back on strong enough. You can buy special glue for use on the plastic/fiberglass mix that these hoods are made of, but the hinge point is too much stress and they just snap again. Have fixed these before by using a peice of alum angle and pop rivet it to the hood, you do see the rivet heads from outside but if they are painted its not ungodly hideous looking and much better then buying a new hood or to get you to finish whats left of the season.

Thats what i was afraid of onthe hood repair. Tried some Devco plastic welder and it seemed to be pretty solid.....Until I put hood back on! Any one care to speculate on 7 flashes? Pretty sure theres a rub threw, Guess I will figure out whether servo has issues afterwards. Sled RIPS! Has a MBRP race can on it and sounds pretty good! Had pipes off checking out bulkhead and its running WAY RICH, pipes pretty wet and pitch black....Better than lean I suppose.

Well I tore into today, Actually still tore apart. I covered every inch of harness and it all looked good. Couple spots the tape job was pretty bad. Appears harness has ben pulled out and retaped at some point. The only place I couldnt get a real good look at the harness is the pig tails going down to stator. Still have no tach or gas gauge with the 7 flashes. Is it possible tach and gas gauge could have ben damaged when hood flew off? Pulled air box and cleaned carbs while I had them out of the way for harness work. Sled runs great. Sits there and idles almost perfect. Will stumble (appeaars to misfire mag cylinder) then revs up a lil, settles back down and idles away. Has me FRUSTRATED!

Your comments seem conflicting or maybe I'm reading it wrong. Did you remove the harness from the sled? If not I'd suggest doing so as this is the only sure-fire way of ensuring the harness isn't shorting somewhere. I've also read of other areas like under the bar pad and above the footwell.
I'd also expect some type of protection (split convolute/heater hose) would be found if someone did have the harness out and knew about chaffing between the stand offs under the engine.

Yes...it does seem conflicting....even to me and I am looking at it! Pulled air box and carbs, pulled harness under enginepulling rope to get back under. Removed tape, inspected, retaped covered in loom protector and pulled back under engine. Hood is sitting on stand next to sled. Fired up and does same thing. Took bolt/screws out of coolant tank, cowl pulled all the zip tyes holding harnes to sled. Pulled all tape and loom protector off where it was. Never found anything remotely looking even questionable. With bars laying on gas tank and harness still laying loosely I can fire sled up and no tach,no gas gauge and 7 flashes. Even tried unplugging PV servo just in case a short in servo was cause(if it was tach/gauge should work and still have 7 flashes) and no change. The only place I have not gotten a goog look at is the pig tails right off the bottom of engine. I spent 7 yes SEVEN hours tearing it apart pulling tape and had no luck. Keeping in mind sled was crashed, Hood hinges broke and hood did a 180 flopping sled pointed back at rider, Is it possible/plausible that tach or gas gauge was damaged and causing this?

Still think its a wiring issue as the fuel guage and tach acting up are a tell tale sign of a short some where[power arcing or touching ground].
-you may want to try to get another wiring harness for your year off Ebay [but its a gamble that its for sale for the same reason]
-check tail light wiring as well
-if you have a visor power source plug in check or disconnect it[this happened on one of my SXs]
-the voltage regulator may be acting up[but I've never seen/heard of this]
Wiring isues can be a real bear to sort out[especially when intermittent] and occasionally the only cure is to replace the whole harness.

Found a problem, dont know if its THE problem. Input? Having issues with upload, dont know it is going to show up or not. Pulled the pipes and recoil off. Found a mismatched bolt holding flywheel on and fly whell full of dings with magnet loaded with shavings.http://s1265.photobucket.com/albums/jj517/jessebrendel/?albumview=slideshow

Looking at the pictures...you definately should start with the flywheel/stator!
-remove flywheel and clean...the inside of flywheel is magnetic and I would suggest that it will be coated with shavings...this would definately cause issues with the stator and obviously would cause all kinds of issues. The flywheel and stator are the electrical power generator for the sled so this easily could be the root of all your problems
-you may also have to remove stator to clean it properly
Be fussy cleaning everything as even a little metal contamination in the flywheel/stator is unacceptable

I cant beleive some one put it back togther llike that or reused the flywheel. I dont know how well you can see it in pics but literally 99.9% has marks from that screw bouncing around in there! Dont have correct bolts on hand for puller, trip to hardware planned in AM!

Cant seem to find one used local. Ton of them on e bay but pretty gun shy about what might show up on my door. Wanted to ride it like yesterday! Searched and didnt find any on here advertised anyway. If any one has one let me know.

I have gathered up all needed parts, bought new bolts. Since I have found out the hard way what happens when bolts loosen up I am thinking blue loctite on everything. Is there anything I shouldnt use it on? Thanks in advance!

Well finally got around to working on it again today. I had picked up 2 used stators. Put first one on put it all back together and no spark? Pulled her 40-50 times before I checked for spark????? Stator looks greatbut no fire? Tore it apart put other stator in first tug fired right up! Was VERY pleased with the "good to go" 3 flashes with working tach and gas gauge. Let it idle for approx 5 minutes and noticed wetness @ donut on mag cylinder and pipe much cooler than other 2. Swapped plugs around from center to mag and fired it back up. Firing on all 3 now. Guessing mag plug was starting to foul from flooding with the 40-50 pulls and being in warm cylinder she started to pop. Trip to town for 3 BR9ECS and will be test and tunning this afternoon!
