Hi all,
new here and new to Yamaha sleds.

Been eyeballing an '04 Viper mountain as the title says,
going to do a look over on the sled tomorrow or the next
day and besides the usual i.e. compression test, bent metal, etc...
Would appreciate any advice/opinions on the sled.

I have done the searches on this website and I'm trying to
figure out some things about this sled:
-Is the Pro action system really that bad? Will I be upset
and wanting something better?
-If I'm looking underneath at the W-arm will I be able to see
a small crack in the arm?
-I've read a lot of good things about the motor and how
its a lamb until you triple pipe it, again, am I going to
be upset with the 120hp? I'm more into breaking new trails and
running in the deep snow, not so much lake running(I guess I
gave that away buy looking at a 144" sled).
-Is it a heavy feeling sled in the deep?

If you know of anything else to look for I look forward to your post,
cheers
Pea

my 03 is bone stock except for the 151 track. no dissapointment. wasnt even that bad with the 144, but longer is better if your breaking trail and riding powder.

the mtn skids used an h arm, havent seen issues with these cracking like the w's, but if its cracked, you will see it.

depending on what your used to riding, the engine delivers good power in stock trim, good hard pull all through the range. snappy. feels like more than what it is. the suspension can be made to work well with a few adjustments and one mod. balance is good and responds well to rider input. clutching and gearing will be your best options.

Pro Action suspension is like the suspension on any machine whether it be a dirt bike, atv, snowmobile, etc. If you just forget about it and ride you will most likely hate it. Just like anything it needs to be maintained, adjusted, and set up to your weight and riding style. If you do that you will be pleasently suprised with the results. Luckily for us in the world of yamaha we have people like BETHEVIPER who supply great info on getting your suspension to do exactly what you want. Is the pro action skid the best ever built of course not but with a little time and elbow grease it can deffinetly get the job done. ;)!
