installing a digatron on my sled. just wondering the proper place of a egt probes. i understand that you still have to watch piston wash and the egts are a reference.

i installed mine at like 7-8" from the exhaust manifold mating surface

I've got a set of flanges with the bungs welded on in the right spot so you get an accurate temp. A lot of times guys put them in the pipe, but that tends to be too far out to be accurate. Now obviously with enough time/testing/was checking, youi could have them anywhere in the pipe and you'd know what your motor was doing in regard to the temp you were seeing, but starting with them in a good spot in the first place is helpful. Let me know if your interested and we can try and work out a deal. I'm thinking $50 plus the shipping for them.

does any one have some pics on and measurements and where they are mounted. that would be a great help.

Maybe you should contact Digitron for their recommendations. I'm sure they have R&D'd where they should be.

I don't think there is any one correct answer. The answer I got years ago from EGT and Digitron was just a general location. To cover every application/mfg. (carts, sleds, ultra-lites, bikes etc) with dyno/probe placement time wouldn't be practical.
MSB may be correct in having them in the dump tubes compared to the pipe (I have mine about 8" from the piston skirt - in the pipe on the bottom side, out of site). With '01 jetting and good fuel my probes read much higher than "recommended" (well over 1300f on long pulls). Since I'm reading more of the pipe temp rather than cylinder temps I back out of WOT when my alarm stops blinking after going off at my set point of, surprise - 1320f during real cold ambients.
This is purely anacdotal but I can somewhat gauge my fuel quality depending on how soon my temps drop after rising during long WOTs. I also look for temp changes during steady state cruise, after fueling to get an idea of changes in the fuel quality.
Bottom line regardless of where the probes end up, whatever the number displayed with proper plug color and piston wash will be your baseline and you can set your alarm set point from there.

the same as snomofo said, my egt's are about 1308-1325 degrees. i checked everything when i dynoed it.

I ran mine in the manifold like MSB, 2 inches from the flange mounting surface

The most important item is to be sure to place the probes, for all 3 pipes, the same distance from the pistons to have accurate readings. On my 2000 SRX there 6" from base of cylinder on pipes. Before you look for a "specific" EGT reading, use your piston wash and plug readings to be satisfied with your jetting... THEN look at the EGT readings and take note of the numbers. This way you will know if somethings up if you see different temps!

I just picked up a Digitron DT-52sl(dual egt). If you were you do it again, would you still put them at 2" or would you adjust that distance a bit? Not that it matters but it'll be on a 96 XT6I ran mine in the manifold like MSB, 2 inches from the flange mounting surface

Aaen sent me an article as to were to put the probes on his pipes it gave a range in distance so I put the probes in the middle of the two ranges. The ad said to close can can be bad because the temperatures fluctuate to much. When I installed the probes I jetted it to where I thought it should be. I did lots of runs on the lake and got the plugs where I wanted them and when I was happy with the color I used the temperature readings on the guages to use.

I have them a little further out on the pipes now but I'm not running stock pipes any more. Like the others have said the key is to use the egt's as a tool after you dial it in with proper plug and piston wash readings.

I found that to be the problem getting the probes the same distance from the pistons. My preferred spot was impossible so I ended up putting them where I could get them all the same distance
