Well, i have a slp can coming for my viper and i pla to run it for now with the stock pipe. But my question to you guys is i heard that putting this can on wil drop your rpm, however i heard that if you wrap them and keep the heat in the exhaust/can it will keep the rpms up to stock. So even though the slp is ceramic coated, would it be a good idea to wrap the exhaust/can to keep the heat in it for better performance. Let me know what you think or heard about this can. Thanks

It surely wont hurt anything to wrap it. At the least it will keep engine bay a little cooler promoting longevity to everything under hood as well as colder air usually burns a little better. Being as some vipers had issues with lean issues due to head design. I would make sure your carb settings as still "safe" with can. Especially if your not running the opticool gasket or aftermarket head.

ya ill have to check the carbs after i get it on..i might just raise one clip anyay just to be on the safe side.i rather ride alittle rich than lean..but i just havnt seen many people wrap a single pipe so wasnt sure if it was a good idea or not..an my question is should o take the heat shield off the stock pipe when i wrap it or wrap it then put the heat shield back on..? any imput would be great..thanks

Would look better with sheild on outside of the wrap. Dont know if it would do anything other than look better. Guess you could wrap it and see what kind of heat is coming of from it, If need be put it on if not dont. I see no point in wrapping pipe with sheild still on it.

the wrap you speak of is used on the pipe, not the silencer. the heat in the silencer wont change the rpms of the engine as the rpms are affected by the pipes core center temp if its low on temp, the engine will fall a little short of peak rpm from say snow dust from a drift or followng behind someone. the silencer wont do that. I wouldnt remove any of the stock yamaha heat sheild and insulation its quite good at keeping the pipe the correct temp for peak performance. all youll gain from the silencer is noise and a slight weight loss.

Like Don said....also wrapping the exhaust silencer will trap moisture and surface rust the silencer quite quickly.
I would just install it as is and enjoy the shiny ceramic coating.

i have a set of tripple pipes on my viper and was also wondering if wraping the can would afect it in a negitive way. i wanted to do this for heat issues with the can being to close to the belly pan.
