my stator shorted out and lost everything... would any one know some possible causes or things to look at that would would make my stator melt.

Personally I'd check for wiring shorts before I assumed the stator fried itself. What all happened that leads you to believe it's completely shorted out? Have you checked it with a digital Multimeter?
not yet but when i pulled the recoil off not only did i smell burnt wires but i saw smoke roll resadue coming out the mag vent holes. i am quadruple traded so i due know my stuff but being my first yamaha i'm looking for more knowledge and help for quicker diegnosing.
