I finally figured out what all the clutch parts came from. They are traced back to a 96 VMAX4. Will that clutch work on the 2000 SRX? Any redadjuctment to offset, etc? Will same belt still work on this clutch? Is this the revised spider or the one they had problems with in the early 90's?

YES, THE 8BU PART NUMBER IS VMAX 800 AND THAT CLUTCH SHOULD WILL WORK ON A SRX. THE SRX CLUTCH WILL NOT WORK ON A VMAX4 BECAUSE VMAX4 HAS COOLING FINS ON PTO SHAFT. THEY MUST BE GROUNDED DOWN ON VMAX. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Tony,

My Yamaha technician informs me that the thinner fixed sheave on the VMAX4's were proned to crack and blow up because of the heat. Have you heard of this issue on VMAX 4's before?

WELL, I BOUGHT A 96 VMAX 4 800 NEW, RACED IT QUAD PIPED etc NEVER CRACKED OR BROKE SHEAVE, STILL ON THAT SLED TODAY. I ALSO BOUGHT A 95 800 NEW, STILL HAVE IT AND RACE IT ALOT AND HAVE GONE THROUGH ONE FIXED SHEAVE TO CRACKS. I REPLACED IT WAS HAUCKS SPEED SHEAVE. SO TWO VMAX4,S IN ALMOST 20 YEARS, 1 CRACKED SHEAVE. I ALSO HAVE SEEN THOSE CRACKS ON PRIMARYS OFF A SRX, VIPER, SXr, SX. so pick your poison i guess. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Thanks Tony. Thought I would check with you. Vmax4 uses a different belt 8BU vs. 8DN on the SRX. Will I be okay using the 8DN with Vmax clutch?

I personally had the fixed sheave on a v max 4 come apart on me! It is very dangerous, check the sheaves for spider cracks often.

THE VMAX 4 BELT 8BU IS A SOFT COMPOUND UNLIKE THE 8DN WICH IS VERY HARD. YAMAHA UPDATED THE 8BU BELT FROM A 89A WHICH WAS LIKE THE 8DN VERY HARD. JUST KEEP A EYE ON THINGS AND IF YA NOTICE HIGH CLUTCH TEMPS, YOU MUST ADDRESS IT RIGHT AWAY. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Thanks Tony. Good to know. I assume the clutch is too hot when my spit boils off the sheave.
