not sure why but those weight doesnt work good went the trail is soft and its warm outside....went its get colde outside and hard pack it work good ...i think its overheat the primary clutch .....i think those clutch will come back with stock with the 8dn-20.....
 

Yep,we tried those in my sons srx and it would not pull rpm's at all in the snow,I think on the lake or ice they are OK just not in any snow.
 
how many weights do you have in the bag already??You may be right there mod...I have mine set up 8dn again.but haven't tried it since the snow conditions here now,the SRX don't like..a little to much..For ice 8bu-10's may be good,in snow not so much...

work good on hard pack and cold condition blue .....on loose snow and hot day its sucks and so horrible on gaz lolll.......tired of playing in there those 8dn.20 are going back there and ride ride no more race .......if u need something that pull on ice or hard pack they work but they are not trail friendly in loose snow ....i got all of them blue in my bagg lollll
 
I found the exact same as well. Awesome in cold weather on the ice and hard pack, but were not pulling 8500 rpm in warmer conditions and looser snow....I had to wrap the crap out of my green secondary to 100 to get 8500 rpm.....8 bu-10 loaded with 4.5 in both holes 55 grams total. I think I might grind the weights down to 53-54 gr and see if that helps......on the other hand, these 8bu-10 pull harder than my 55gr. 8dn's...but the 8dn's at 55gr. had great top end but not so much in the bottom and mid.......
 
I find stock clutching for trails and all temperature and climate conditions just fine. Not sure why recreational riders mess with the clutching when I read most of them go back to stock after awhile of trying anyway.

Thats the thing with changing clutch weights, you cant have a 1 set up do it all well, it doesnt exist! Clutching is a give and take, to get something in gain, your going to give up something else somewhere.
The stock clutching is set up to meet a variety of conditions but cant meet them all either. Yamaha has no idea if a 19yr old boy is buying the sled or a 60yr old woman, so they set them up to do "decent" in all the conditions they can.
A fast drag race set up isnt going to back shift well.
A fast topend speedrun set up isnt going to backshift well.
A great backshifting trail set up isnt going to produce fast ET's in a short disrtance.
Snocross set up isnt going to have good topend.

You cant have it all, set up your sled for the riding you do 90% of the time, just deal with the 10% win or lose,good or bad and youll enjoy your sled alot more then if you set it up for the 10% like guys have done here.
 
i have found the best weights for allround best performance is to use a cat weight using a pin kit to convert them green secondary 51-43 rear helix and 54 grams of weight

OF CORSE NOT, UNLESS YOU WANT TO TAKE THE TIME TO GET THIS SLED DYNOED, THAN YOU CAN USE JUST TWO SETS OF JETS. 10 DEGREES TO 35 AND 40 DEGREES TO 60. running them at 51 gram with a 50-43 helix ..hit 8700 on ice or hard pack but can't hit more than 8300 during hot day and loose snow ........so ill go back to stock and have fun ;)!

I had the same problem when I first put 8bu-00's in. We set the sled up and tested it on a hard packed stretch of ditch my buddy uses for testing. I remember I had a 51/43 on it and the secondary at a 70 wrap, forget exactly what rivets we ended up putting in. Got it spot on for those conditions and the next day I drove it home across the fields in the powder and it wasn't pulling the rpms, the secondary was opening up too easy and it was acting like a dog. I realized it was acting like there was too much weight so I ended up pulling some out and put a hauck G (shallower) helix in and tightened the wrap to 90. Made a world of difference. If I do hit the hardpack I'm overrevving some but around here we hardly do any trail or ice riding, mostly boondocking through fields. Since its set up good for the majority of my riding style I live with it. Like Mr Viper said, you can't have everything.
As for running on warm days you could always get a tempa flo, vari flo or attac system and put it on your sled. It will keep your clutching more consistant by leaning your sled out so it runs better in warmer conditions. I have a vari flo system on my sled and an exhaust temp gauge to keep an eye out on how my sled is running and I've changed two jet sizes on some days where you start out at -15c in the morning and 0c to +5c in the afternoon. That makes a big difference too.
So don't give up yet Mod! You are close. I've never tried 8bu-10's but these 00's pull so much harder than my 8dn-20's that I would never think about changing back. You just have a little bit of fine tuning left to do!

I agree tony. What these others don't understand is that the soft wet snow will make the clutches shift faster and i bet even with stock clutching on a warm wet day that you would under-rev. Not to mention clutch setups change based on riding conditions. I won't ever go back to 8dn's from 8bu's. There are so many variables that can change rpm......rich jetting, warm air temp, high air moisture, low compression, clutching off, etc. Stock or poorly tuned engines will also be afftected more so than a stout ported motor.
 
ill bring a shallower helix so went the temp and snow will not be in good condition ill switch it and see how it work
