belt, driveline bearings, broken w-arm, are a few things to look into. also not sure if it was just 98s or 99s too that needed the cranks updated.

Hope its not the crank! Everything else is a piece of cake compared to that! Is it studded?

Guessing the added bite studs give you translates to more stress on crank. From what I have read they were loc-tited together from the factory. 98's were recalled and welded.

ALL 98 SRXs WERE RECALLED FOR CRANK UPDATE. THE 99 SRX WAS RECALLED WHEN YOU USE TRACTION PRODUCTS. UNSTUDED NO NEED TO BE RECALLED. THIS IS IN 99 YAMAHA TECH MANUAL. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I picked up my brand new 99 in Oct/98. They called me in Nov to bring it in for the recall. So some of them were recalled no matter what anyways.

Have someone with a clutch puller pop off primary clutch, then use a dial indicator on the crank snout as close to the lip of the seal as possible and check the run out, anything .006" and more and it needs to come apart to be trued and welded.
