Does anyone know how to get piston shavings out of a blown engine? I unfortunately blew mine up last week. I have an 02 viper 700.
Depends on how well you want to do it! The best way would be to take the engine out, and tear it down and clean it in a solvent tank.

I got lucky once on a fuji twin that center holed a piston (no ring damage) by washing out the crankcase multiple times with safetyclean. Saw the sled last year due to a crank seal. When I split it all was well (well, except for an outer crank bearing from the blown seal) but I did find aluminum dust at the oil pump shaft area so I didn't get it all out like I thought. I still had to yank the motor to be able to turn it upside down to wash it out.
To answer your question - tearing it down is the only sure way plus while its apart you can replace those 10 year old crank seals, spec everything out and know what you have.
It'll be cheap peace of mind and cheaper period in the long run.

X2 on pull engine, split cases. You hear of people just putting a new piston/jug on but trust me when I say you dont want to do this unless you plan on doing it several times. Split cases, clean everything. Get the crank checked out. reassemble and ride for years to come!
