You know how when you hit the brakes and let off, you can hear a whine as the sled slows? What causes that noise? My problem is that I hear this noise slightly even when cruising. I'm concerned that something may be out of adjustment.
Since I had the engine out, I'm concerned my clutches may be out of alignment even though I used the alignment tool when I reinstalled the engine.
Could it be that I have my chain misadjusted? I went finger tight and backed it off 1/4 turn.
Looking for some places to start here.
Thanks

Thanks Yami. Can you elaborate a little. I can see the spring is in hole 6 on the outside of the secondary. The spring is black with a white? paint dot. Original owner said all clutching is stock. How do I check to see what the inner hole is? I'm kind of new to clutches. I can pull the secondary off, but once it comes to disassembling, I'm lost.
Thanks
Thanks

I'm going to keep looking into this secondary issue, but It looks like my chain may be mis-adjusted. http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/...page=3&pp=10&highlight=secondary+clutch+noise
I pulled the secondary and it looks like it is wrapped to 70 (hole 6 on the outside and hole 1 on the inside). That sounds like a familiar number I have seen referred to before on this site.

OK, I think my chain was too tight. without the belt on, it took a fair amount of effort to turn the track (while up on a stand). I was finger tight on the tensioner. I went finger snug now and backed off a quarter of a turn.
Now it is easy to turn the track without the belt on. When I run it on a stand, the track takes much longer to slow down to a stop and just kind of creeps at an idle. I think I remember reading this was the desirable adjustment.
I think they may have been hurting my gas mileage as well. Yesterday isn't a good measure because I only got 5 mpg but I was braking trail. In January I got between 8 and 10, which I think was low for a stock viper on nice groomed trails. I'm leaving tonight and heading toward Hayward, Wi, so hopefully I can get this thing dialed in so next year I'm ready to put on thousands of miles - a guy can dream I guess.
