Hey guys, we just got like 30 cm of snow ! like nuts, and supposed to get to +9 and rain in two days, i want to go for one last rip in the snow and i have no spark

heres how it goes i had this problem with the recoil it was fine for two rides

http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?p=579585#post579585

durring the last ride, the guy behind me said my tail light was going out, and would come back, then one time for 5 minutes my tach was out, sled allways ran fine, then 5 hours later on the lake at night sled hicuped at cruising speed, headlight also died, and came back, then when i was going to load it, the headlight was half voltage kinda thing, but still the sled still ran fine,

so no no spark, i checked for rub through, havent found any yet, there was one wire that was comming out of its plug and i cant get it to stay in, going up to the dash, a blue one part of a yellow and green 3 prong plug, but doubt that wouldn't give me a spark, i guess time to test my stator ?

thanks

And test voltage regulator... had the same problem on buddys skidont...pulled the stator apart and it was filthy...cleaned it up and put it all back together and it was still blowing headlights and the gauges wern't working...threw on a used voltage regulator he had sitting around and bobs your aunt she came back to life...cheap and quick fix

If you search my user name you will find my thread out no tachand gas guage with 7 flashes. Has some nasty pics of stator. Bolt holding pick up rattled out and beat everything behind recoil housing to HELL...AND BACK! Sled ran great up to 6500. Being as you have flywheel and stator well worth it to swap and see what happens. You will need puller (harmonic balancer puller, cheap one at any autoparts $20) You need to pull the 3 bolts holding the recoil ring on NOT TO DEEP WITH PULLER BOLTS. Thread bolts into flywheel you have and mark them. If you go to deep you will damage stator. Should be able to swap it in an hour or so......depending on mechanis ability. You need blue loctite for re-assembley

Unless you completely removed the under engine harness for inspection you won't know for sure (not saying you didn't, but you aren't specific in your comments above).

There are other areas to look for rub-throughs too. Search "rub-through Viper" and you'll find a lot of reading where members have found other areas to look at.

None of this will cost you anything but time, but could save you a lot of headache and cash on parts you don't need.

I dont know what that 3 prong plug is but if its kill switch that might be your problem

sounds good guys, looks like spring is here, so i can take my time, i unplugged the kill switch and key, and I unbolted the cdi and check alot of places for rub thru, and havent found any, im suspecting its the stator since i have a very weak spark, and the harder i pull the better the spark, still have to test ohm's and pull the flywheel and inspect !

thanks again

Update: Tested to stator, the one for the coil was way out on the ohms, opened it up and there was coils broken, changed the mag, and the beast runs again !
