I replaced my thermostat last week and I'm going riding Thursday and I just discovered I didnt align the little hole in the thermostat per the service manual directions Is this going to be an issue as I really dont feel like taking it apart again til summer. : )
Apparently, there's a notch in the stat that when lined up with the housing it alows some coolant to circulate during warm up" but I dont know the importance of this?
My exchangers all heated up just fine!
Thanks for your help.

Thanks,
it definitely sat properly when I reinstalled it. It has a gasket around the thermostat and it sat nice and flush. I dont expect it will leak but more concerned of the importance of this hole for allowing coolant flow.
Probably will take a chance. : )

the hole is only there to let traped air escape when filling, but if you have it bleed and its circulateing fine i don't think you have any think to worry about.

Thats the answer I'm looking for : ) LOL
Sounds logical to me. We'll see what happens.
Thanks!!!

I did the same thing but didn't have all the coolant in yet. So I drained a bit out and opened up the housing to check only to find I put it in the same orientation as the old one, so in other words it was lined up, doh!
It will be fine though as long as everything bled properly.

I think that hole also allows coolant to flow as opposed to building pressure behind it when engine is cool (stat not open yet). As long as your rad cap is funtioning should be okay...maybe dont torque cap down tight?

Got back from trip in Aroostook county maine and after 315 miles, no leaks and no temp light issues : ) Of course, I did have the DCS blinking at me on every 100mph run : ( I am pretty sure it was due to the sled revving at 8800-8900 at top speed. It never rev'd this high last year but I did have new rings put in, so maybe it has more power now at 9800 miles : )
Thanks guys!!!

Agree 8800-8900 would cause that. 8500 is supposed to the top rpm for stock 700

What surprising is the over rev despite having 4.5 gram rivets in both holes on my 8dn-20 weights and with a pretty steep advant-edge 48-40 helix with a green sec. spring.
Maybe the secondary "40" angle is too shallow for top end.

try a 51/43 then, still might need to put 1 g washer under the outer 4.5 rivet I found. My best speeds on my SRX has been with the 51/43..tried many different ones also, but keep coming back to it...maybe a 51/45 may be the ticket..
