Can I remove the oil pump on a 99 vmax 700 without pulling the engine?

It would be more work trying to change it while in than it would if you just pulled it.
Never pulled the whole motor. Is it diffIcult?

Not too bad pulling whole motor. You need to pull primary to completely remove. Might be able to get away with pulling carbs,airbox,exhaust and pull the motor mount bolts and roll engine forward. Once your that far get a good look at harness under motor.
Why? What am I looking for?

97 and up to 00 or 01 were plagued with rub threws in harness, especially under the motor. If everything works as it should you probably dont have a rub threw but if theres a spot looking questionable you could retape it now or reoute it instead of dealing with it in a season or two when motor isnt already loose. Common issues are gas guage/tach/headlights flickering or dont work at all.
